Nationalfeierdag zu Letzebuerg

Fun Luxembourg

Do you recognise all the food in our picture?
I’m sure you’ve tried the potato dish with the unpronounceable name “Gromperkichelcher”. Aren’t they delicious!
What about “Kniddelen”? Do you add bacon to them?
Thüringer, Mettwurscht? Or Rieslingspaschtéit? Wonderfully washed down with a beer or a great Moselle wine.

We celebrate Nationalfeierdag (national day) in Luxembourg with Luxembourg emojies: Gromperkichelcher, Kniddlen, Mettwurscht, Tipp-Topp, Mega, Kniddelen and Melusina.

Do you know the story behind Melusina?

There is, of course, a nightclub called after her, but the real Melusina was a mermaid who was living a love story with the Count of Luxembourg, Siegfried aka Siggi.
Melusina asked that her lover Siggi respects her privacy once a week, when she would retire to the bathroom. Too curious about what she could be doing, the Count dared to look through the keyhole and discovered Melusina’s fish tail.
He paid a high price for his curiosity, since she jumped out of the window into the Alzette and disappeared forever.

Luxembourg is also the country where you party the day before the national day so you can sober up on the day itself. What a fantastic tradition! It’s also the day we celebrate the Grand Duke’s birthday although he’s born in April… . There is so much to say about this country.

We wish you a weekend full of celebrations and Happy National Day!
Prost, hip hip hurray an e schéinen Nationalfeierdag!
